Just off the North Devon Coast lies Lundy Island and there are day trips leaving from Bideford and Ilfracombe during the season.
Other places to visit include Arlington Court, Marwood Gardens, Dartington Crystal glass factory and Tapley Park. Horse riding, quad biking and watersports are all available locally. Shop 21/2 miles.

The delightful seaside fishing village of Instow (3 miles) offers many pubs and fine restaurants, and also has a sandy beach overlooking the bay. 3 miles away is Westward Ho! with an extensive sandy beach, popular with keen surfers, and an 18-hole links golf course. The fascinating little fishing village of Appledore with its narrow streets has art galleries run by local artists and offers sea fishing trips. Many more glorious golden beaches can be found within 20 miles at Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe. The Dartington Crystal factory, where you can watch and take part in making the famous glassware is only 5 miles away, as are the Rosemoor RHS Gardens. Shop 1½ miles.

A 30-minute walk across farmland leads to a little known, secluded, pebble and sandy beach - Portledge beach (access only available from 2nd Feb - 31st August) - which is a wonderful sun trap and well off the tourist map, making it usually very quiet even on the busiest summer day. The spectacular South West Coastal Path has a chain of magnificent cliffs and stretches along the Heritage Coast to Hartland Point. Retaining many original features - including exposed timber roof trusses, vaulted ceilings and natural stone – the property also benefits from modern design details. The four spacious double bedrooms are sumptuously furnished with designer fabrics, each one themed: French-style, chunky rustic Mexican-style, rich mahogany, and one with contemporary nickel bedstead. To the front of Orchard House is an enclosed garden and patio, with uninterrupted country views across the fields and valley. Hartland Abbey is well worth a visit and the charming village of Clovelly, just 6 miles away, is one of Britain’s showpieces, with whitewashed houses tumbling down to a little harbour. The Atlantic Village Outlet Shopping Centre, which includes a large supermarket, is just 2 miles.
