Accommodation overview: This pretty detached single storey cottage is set in its own grounds at the end of the Achnacarnin township road on the Stoer Peninsular - one of the most breathtaking beautiful locations on the renowned north west coast of Scotland. With views across the sea to the Assynt Mountains beyond, this cottage has been built to maximise its idyllic location. Whilst it is a modern property, the main living area takes its inspiration from a traditional croft house and byre, with high ceilings and lovely open fireplace, surrounded by Caithness stone. The Gaelic name translates at The Green House; this alludes not only to the outside paintwork, but also to its eco friendly green credentials - even the heating is extracted from the ground using an innovative ground source heat pump. A small shingle sea inlet lies directly below the cottage. Sit on the rocks and watch for seals and otters, or fish for pollock, ling or even the occasional sea trout. Take a walk to the point of Stoer along the spectacular cliff face, with the pounding waves below. The white shell beach at Achmelvich is simply stunning, contrasted with the emerald green waters of the Atlantic - a real undiscovered gem and ideal for bathing, canoeing and snorkelling in the crystal clear waters. With the awe inspiring Assynt Mountains on the doorstep, such as Stack Polly, Suilven, Cansip and Quinag, this area of Sutherland is a walkers and cyclists paradise. There are numerous sandy bays and inlets all along the spectacular coastal route. Nearby Locinver is an unspoilt fishing village set in a natural harbour, where seals await the return of the small fishing fleet. Enjoy a meal at the local pub or sample some of the award winning pies at the specialist pie shop and cafe. Founded at the height of the herring boom of the 18th century, the nearby town of Ullapool continues to flourish. Attractive shops and cafes line the sea front. Take a trip to the uninhabited Summer Isles and view the seals, dolphins and porpoises that frequent this wonderful shoreline. This awe inspiring wild and natural mountain area has recently been designated as the largest Geo Park in Europe. Property has ground source eco under floor heating.
