Barnstaple, 12 miles, additionally has a theatre, cinema and leisure activities, and places of interest including the Museum of North Devon, Pannier Market, 14th-century St Anne’s Chapel and 18th-century Queen Anne’s Walk. Other family attractions in the area include RHS gardens at Rosemoor, The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Kilarney Springs, Exmoor Zoo and Dinosaur Park.
Spectacular beaches at Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! are all within easy driving distance. Horse riding is available locally at Chulmleigh and sailing, windsurfing and fishing can be enjoyed at Tamar Lakes and Wimbleball Lake, as well as Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks. Golfers can enjoy a round at Chulmleigh Golf Course within 1 mile of the house and at others which are within 5 miles. The fishing villages of Appledore and Clovelly are close by and are well worth a visit, as are a host of other quaint little villages, each with its own unique character, charm and welcoming inn. The Tarka Trail offers walking and cycling along the estuary with cycle hire available. Within easy driving distance is Hartland, where the dramatic English Heritage coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Tapley Park, Dartington Crystal, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way are all popular local family attractions. For surfers and beach lovers the sandy beaches are not to be missed. Westward Ho! (Blue Flag) can be reached in 15 minutes and many other attractive beaches are not far away. Fishing, sailing, horse riding and golf are available locally, and Exmoor National Park is within easy reach. Shops 2 miles, village pub serving food approximately 1 mile.

From Barnstaple visitors can follow the Tarka Trail which runs through some of the most sparsley populated areas in Devon. For those wishing an alternative method of transport, then bikes are available to hire and there are designated cycle trails for some of the trail.
