Accommodation overview: St Magnus Haven is a quintessential seafront cottage situated in a prime position in the picture-postcard village of Pennan. Named after the Nordic Saint of Orkney fame, this pretty detached cottage, oozing charm and character, provides a wonderful haven for couples wishing to explore this totally unspoilt and scenic coastline.  The beautifully presented lounge and double bedroom both look out across the bay, with magnificent seascapes bounded by cliffs and rocky outcrops.  A small, sheltered shingle and sandy beach runs the length of the foreshore, with a lovely natural harbour at the far end.   Passing seals and dolphins are often spotted close to shore. The secluded, fully enclosed walled garden at the rear is an absolute delight. Roses ramble around the courtyard, tubs and pots are filled with brightly coloured flowers and the grass-covered cliffs behind provide a natural backdrop. Pennan is a quintessential fishing village.  Renowned as the location for the film Local Hero, starring Burt Lancaster, it can boast the most famous red telephone box in the world, which still sits on the quayside.  A narrow winding lane leads down to the shore, with a number of white-washed cottages dotted along the shore-line, its unique character and atmosphere can be best described as Cornwall without the crowds.  The local village hall has undergone a recent refurbishment and is a popular venue for romantic weddings and the Pennan Inn, just a short stroll from the cottage, is ideal for a good local meal or evening drink overlooking the bay. At the far end a small harbour is used by leisure craft as well as some small fishing vessels. There is plenty to see and do in the area.  At the nearby RSPB nature reserve, puffins, gannets and a wide variety of other seabirds can be spotted close at hand.  A Puffin Boat Trip is particularly recommended. The area is renowned for its golf courses, with many championship courses within easy access.  There are numerous castles and distilleries on the famous Whisky and Castle Trails.  The nearby town of Macduff has an excellent aquarium centre. Wonderful coastal walks abound and cycling, fishing, sailing, riding and surfing are all enjoyed locally.  The historic town of Banff is within easy driving distance.  This attractive, traditional stone town has number of excellent shops, gardens, tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and a sports centre.  Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm mountains are also both within easy reach. Property is all on ground floor level, has oil central heating.
