Accommodation overview: Set in a secluded position high in the Mendips above Cheddar Gorge (and just 3 miles from Cheddar), these three attractive barn conversions make an excellent base for walkers and nature lovers. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is rich in bird and wildlife, including badgers and deer (which visit the farm). Animals on the farm include calves, pygmy goats, alpacas, rabbits and guinea pigs. Nature trails criss-cross the surrounding hills, easily accessible from the farm, and the whole area is one of immense historical and geological interest.
Among the many places of interest to visit are Wells cathedral in England’s smallest city, Glastonbury Tor, the caves at Cheddar and Wookey, Longleat and several NT properties including Montacute House and Stourhead and King John’s Hunting Lodge in pretty Axbridge. Excellent beaches and seaside entertainment can be enjoyed at Weston Super Mare and Brean, and there are many charming villages to be explored, along with the rugged landscape of Exmoor National Park, famous for the native ponies. The Georgian Heritage city of Bath is easily reached with its beautiful architecture, Roman Baths, Abbey and fine selection of shops and restaurants. Several golf clubs are available locally together with horse riding, coarse fishing and trout fishing at Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes. Very good local inns and places to eat. Shops 3 miles.

Accommodation overview: West Lynch, thatched and cosy, has been with the same family for three centuries and lies on the sunny side of the Porlock Valley. Inside, relaxation and comfort abound - it is beautifully furnished with lots of arts and crafts, many sitting areas, 50in and 32in TVs and with facilities such as Wii, games room and indoor pool table. Outside catering is available by an inspired professional chef by arrangement for that special occasion or treat. National Trust woodlands from the former Acland Estates are just beyond the house. These lead to the open moors - with large herds of red deer, Exmoor ponies, the buzzards on the wing and foxes in thir lairs - and dramatic headland of Hurlstone, looking west down to Devon and north to the Welsh coast. Also within walking distance are the romantic villages of Bossington, Selworthy, Allerford and bustling Porlock for year-round needs, as well as Minehead’s farmers’ market. There is surfing at Lynmouth or beyond to Croyde and Woolacombe, and golf at Minehead or the fine course at Saunton for a true test. Horse riding is available for all abilities and entertainment for both children and adults at Lynch Farm and Tropicaria further on. There are also glorious walks, of course, to hidden treasures such as Culbone Church, Butlins at Minehead or Dunster Castle if activities such as outdoor meals, table tennis, croquet and messing about with balls at West Lynch does not suffice. Local beaches are a short drive away, but Bossington beach is within walking distance, with its amazing pebble ridge. Enjoy a stay in this special corner of Exmoor. Clustered around a cobbled courtyard they enjoy shared use of an outdoor heated swimming pool with its own walled area and poolside furniture and an acre of magnificent sub tropical gardens and 3-acre paddock offering views over the West Somerset Steam Railway and across the Bristol Channel to the Welsh coast. The gardens are a special feature of Ellicombe Manor filled with mature palm trees named exotic plants and shrubs and quiet corners with seating. Here too visitors may discover the ‘secret garden’ or enjoy a game of outdoor chess or other outdoor games.
A mile away Dunster with its famous castle yarn market and pre Christmas candlelight shopping offers a selection of pubs shops and restaurants. Minehead’s resort attractions sandy beach and coastal path walks are also close by. Golf river and lake fishing horse riding and wonderful walking locally in Exmoor National Park and West Somerset Steam Railway weekends. One mile to the start of South West Coast Path.
