Accommodation overview: The pretty stone cottages at Northway are set in 5 acres of grounds within half a mile of the dramatic coastal footpath above Peppercombe’s National Trust shingle beach and within 5 miles of the glorious sandy beach at Westward Ho! Most of the cottages open off a delightful flower filled courtyard whilst some look out towards the sea. All of the cottages are well furnished and equipped and some have their own garden. Visitors enjoy use of a superb leisure complex housing an indoor heated swimming pool and spa with full changing and shower facilities (open 9:00am-7:30pm) a fitness area and games room with table football (coin-operated) pool table table tennis and toddlers play area. For children there is a well-equipped adventure play area and an area for ball games and they will surely enjoy stroking the tame rabbits and goats. Christmas decorations a real tree and champagne are supplied for Christmas bookings. This is a wonderful walking area both on the coast and along the nearby Tarka Trail. From the lane a rough track (not suitable for toddlers or the infirm) leads down to the coastal path from where there are magnificent views across Bideford Bay towards Clovelly and the beaches of Devon’s northern coastline. There is plenty to see and do nearby – The Big Sheep and Milky Way the new Atlantic Village and the picture postcard village of Clovelly (6 miles) are just some of the attractions. Bude’s superb sandy beach and resort amenities are within a half hour drive. Golf and riding are available locally and the Tamar Lakes offer sailing and wind surfing. Nearest pub serving food in Horns Cross 0.25 miles.

Accommodation overview: ‘Impressive and spacious’ are the first words that describe this period seaside villa. With breathtaking views over the River Torridge, Instow beach and across the estuary towards Appledore, The Captain’s House is also owned and managed by the Webbery Estate (refs HPPR, HPPS, H81, HDDP, HDDN, HDDQ, HDDO and HMMN, just 15 minutes away) and is located in the pretty coastal village of Instow, just a short walk from the beach. One of a pair, the holiday house has an enclosed garden and patio area to the rear, which is ideal for eating outdoors. Having been renovated, the property boasts a fitted kitchen and dining room which has stunning views over the estuary. Guests can enjoy lovely views from most of the upstairs bedrooms and there is a small reading area that overlooks the garden. The pretty village of Instow, located between Barnstaple and Bideford has stretches of golden, sandy beaches and dunes, which makes this an ideal place for relaxing family holiday. An ideal spot for most watersports and sea - fishing can be enjoyed here, or alternatively local boat trips are available. For those wishing to sample the local food, plenty of pubs and restaurants can be found in Instow and the speciality is seafood - of course. The famous ‘Tarka Trail’ - just on the doorstep - is perfect for walkers and cyclists and follows the estuary towards Braunton and is a lovely way to experience the delights that this area has to offer. On the opposite side of the estuary is Appledore, a pretty unspoilt village with a wealth of painted fishermen’s cottages, found up narrow winding streets, some of which date back as far as 1335. Famous for its maritime history and arts there is a maritime museum and numerous arts and crafts shops. Just a short drive away, visitors will find a substantial and popular surfing beach and golf courses at famous Westward Ho! Within two miles is Bideford with its historic port and lively market as well as regular boat trips to nearby Lundy Island. The Dartington Crystal factory and RHS gardens at Rosemoor are easily accessible, as is a wealth of National Trust properties including Tapely Park and Hartland Abbey, to name a few.
