Southwold Harbour - All the Harbour properties overlook the water with a mix of pleasure and working boats; beyond this are open views towards Walberswick which can be approached over the nearby footbridge or on the foot ferry (summer only). There are equally delightful views from the rear windows across meadows towards the town. Town centre shops and other amenities are three quarters of a mile away (15 minutes delightful walk) across grazing meadows and the common, whilst the beach is a similar distance along the side of the Blyth River to the harbour mouth. There is a good eating pub nearby which welcomes children; an exceptional fish and chip restaurant; a tea room and all the hustle and bustle of a sailing and fishing community. No 1 Blackshore provides an ideal base for watching the changing moods of the harbour. From the front door you can watch boats plying the river or get straight into a country walk. Accommodation overview: Little tern is thought to be a former coastguard cottage. Orford is an attractive small town, dominated by the remains of a 12th Century castle keep - you may like to climb to the top to enjoy the panoramic views over the town and marshes. It is also famous for Orford Ness National Trust Nature Reserve and Havergate Island, both a delight for ornithologists and nature lovers. Sailing and boat trips are available on the River Ore, with country walks in Rendlesham Forest. It is only nine miles from the beach at Aldeburgh, with the historic towns of Framlingham and Woodbridge and the world-famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall also within easy reach. Little Tern is thought to be a former coastguard cottage situated in Quay Street within a stone's throw of the jetty. Accommodation overview: The Old Post Office is a grade II listed building filled with character. It is ideally located in Dunwich with the beach, footpaths and a pub very close by. There are great views across the salt marshes towards Walberswick and Southwold to enjoy. Dunwich with its intriguing past, which is revealed in the local museum (two doors from the house), is a unique, quiet, idyllic village, surrounded by nature reserves, heathland and beach offering peace and tranquillity. There are also the remains of a leper chapel by the church and a monastery. The beach is shingle but at low tide it is partly sandy. There are many scenic pathways across the heath to the coastguard cottages and national trust tearooms. Amongst the numerous trails leading from Dunwich is one to Walberswick and on to Southwold via the ferry or bridge. The whole of the heritage coast offers excellent walking and stunning beaches to explore. The Old Post Office is a grade II listed building filled with character.
