Accommodation overview: West Lynch, thatched and cosy, has been with the same family for three centuries and lies on the sunny side of the Porlock Valley. Inside, relaxation and comfort abound - it is beautifully furnished with lots of arts and crafts, many sitting areas, 50in and 32in TVs and with facilities such as Wii, games room and indoor pool table. Outside catering is available by an inspired professional chef by arrangement for that special occasion or treat. National Trust woodlands from the former Acland Estates are just beyond the house. These lead to the open moors - with large herds of red deer, Exmoor ponies, the buzzards on the wing and foxes in thir lairs - and dramatic headland of Hurlstone, looking west down to Devon and north to the Welsh coast. Also within walking distance are the romantic villages of Bossington, Selworthy, Allerford and bustling Porlock for year-round needs, as well as Minehead’s farmers’ market. There is surfing at Lynmouth or beyond to Croyde and Woolacombe, and golf at Minehead or the fine course at Saunton for a true test. Horse riding is available for all abilities and entertainment for both children and adults at Lynch Farm and Tropicaria further on. There are also glorious walks, of course, to hidden treasures such as Culbone Church, Butlins at Minehead or Dunster Castle if activities such as outdoor meals, table tennis, croquet and messing about with balls at West Lynch does not suffice. Local beaches are a short drive away, but Bossington beach is within walking distance, with its amazing pebble ridge. Enjoy a stay in this special corner of Exmoor. Accommodation overview: On the edge of the North York Moors National Park, this delightful 18th-century cottage overlooks its own mature gardens in a private and secluded setting, yet is only 200 yards from the heart of the charming market town of Pickering. Hungate Garden Cottage has been completely renovated and extended to provide very comfortable holiday accommodation for larger parties, with the added benefit of a ground floor twin bedroom and bathroom with shower specially designed for a disabled person or couple. The cottage benefits from all modern amenities, yet retains all the charm and character of its 18th-century origins, with open beams and a log fire.
Hungate Garden Cottage is managed by the same team that looks after all the Hungate Cottages so immaculately . Visitors also enjoy free use of Pickering’s superb public indoor heated swimming pool (200 yards) and two free multi-entry passes to Dalby Forest. Pickering is a friendly town with good shops, inns and restaurants. From here the steam Railway runs across the moors amid stunning scenery, through the unspoilt villages of Levisham and Goathland (‘Aidensfield’ in television’s Heartbeat) to Grosmont. On the coast lies the historic seaport of Whitby (21 miles) with 3 miles of sandy beaches, cobbled streets, ruined Abbey and colourful harbour. Further along, huddled into the cliff-side, are the tiny fishing villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay, once the haunt of smugglers, while the popular resort of Scarborough is 17 miles away, offering excellent theatres, shopping and family entertainment. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes, the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Great Torrington and Marwood Gardens 2 miles away. Accommodation overview: Occupying the most superb elevated position, along the North Devon Heritage Coast, this unique holiday property is set into a cliffside and offers unrivalled panoramic views over the Bay and Bristol Channel from its principal rooms. Accommodation overview: This imposing Edwardian country house has been fully refurbished to a high standard and stands in its own garden overlooking sheep grazing the common at Goathland, whilst the views of moors and forest may be enjoyed from the west-facing terrace.
