The award-winning Tate Gallery with its roof-top cafe can be found at St Ives, together with the Barbara Hepworth Museum, a selection of craft shops and restaurants, and its superb beach – popular also with surfers. Once a centre of the fishing industry, the town later attracted an artists’ colony, consisting of both painters and potters, whilst at Zennor, D.H. Lawrence greatly admired the area with its characteristic granite buildings and planned to start a writers’ community. At the bottom of the village, the Wayside Museum is dedicated to Cornish life from prehistoric times, and the Iron Age village of Chysauster is the best-preserved ancient settlement in the south-west. At Pendeen, the Cornish mining industry can be observed at Geevor Tin Mine, where there is also a museum. Close by is St Just-in-Penwith, which was the centre of the tin and copper industry, and Cape Cornwall (which also had a mine) shelters a magnificent beach, which is close to Whitesand Bay – a mile-long stretch of beach that offers the best swimming on the Penwith Peninsula, with Sennen Cove also proving popular with surfers. At Land’s End, the furthest point west of England, views to the Isles of Scilly can sometimes be seen and moving further round the coast, near Porthcurno, the famous Minack Theatre, built into the side of a cliff provides a novel setting for plays. Shop 400 yards. Spacious living room with bay windows. Spacious well-equipped fitted kitchen/dining room with tiled floor. Two double bedrooms; one with en-suite shower room with toilet, one with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Accommodation overview: In lovely surroundings of peaceful open countryside, this award-winning, detached barn conversion, with its own small garden, is built around a cobbled courtyard and reached by a ¾-mile long farm track. Ingenious design has retained the barn’s unique character, while creating very spacious and well-equipped accommodation, ideal for holidays at any time of year. Rushing rivers flow down the main dales of Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale, surrounded by the high peaks of the Pennines, and high waterfalls, such as Hardraw Force near Hawes, make spectacular sights. Everywhere grey-stone villages blend effortlessly into an unspoilt landscape. The Lakes offer a land of exciting contrasts – high mountains and deep lakes in an ever-changing array of colours. Large kitchen with dining area and wood-burning stove. Large walk-in larder. Utility with separate toilet. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet.
