During the summer months there are spectacular views of the sunset out to sea. Furnished to a very high standard, its two ground floor bedrooms each have patio doors leading to either a terrace, or to a large decked area that surrounds the house. Just a short stroll down the hill leads to a shingle beach and a selection of good restaurants and pub. Half a mile to the east of the property lies the picturesque cove of Port Gaverne with a shingle beach, rock pools and its good pub/restaurant/hotel. Port Isaac lies on the famous south-west coast path and has cliff walks with wild flowers and stunning sea views to both east and west along NT paths. The sandy beaches of Trebarwith Strand to the east, and Polzeath/New Polzeath to the west are within a ¼ hour’s drive and have wonderful swimming and surfing facilities. Port Isaac is a similar distance away from the well known coastal resort of Rock with its shops, bars, restaurants and sailing. Picturesque Padstow lies close by and is characterised by quaint streets and slate houses that cluster round the working fish harbour, together with its famous Rick Stein restaurants and bistro. From Padstow harbour, boats offer cruises in Padstow Bay and a ferry trip across the estuary to Rock can be made. Forming part of the Camel Trail, the 5-mile Padstow to Wadebridge stretch offers cyclists a level route that passes by Pinkson Creek, a habitat rich in bird life. Tintagel, with its mystical castle is but a short drive away, and Bodmin Moor also lies within easy reach. There is fly fishing available by arrangement in the river just 200 yards from the property (children must be supervised), and there are many places to visit including Crealy Adventure Park which is just outside Exeter. Exeter with its fabulous cathedral, many shops, canal and quaint hidden pubs is close by, as is Taunton with its array of shops. Exmouth with its sandy beaches is only 35 minutes away or take a trip to Exmoor National Park and look out for red deer and ponies, or take a Landrover ride across the rugged terrain. There are many villages well worth visiting across Exmoor, take time out for a cream tea, or stop to see some breathtaking scenery. There are many National Trust places close by including Arlington Court, Watersmeet and Dunster Castle, as well as Marwood Gardens. Cothay Manor is 3 miles; Glastonbury and Cheddar Caves are within driving distance of the property, and well worth a day out. Minehead is not far away, with its sandy beach, steam railway and shops. It is hard to believe just how amazingly pretty and peaceful this tiny hamlet really is - just a church, a few cottages, and farmland all around in a totally unspoilt and most unvisited corner of West Somerset. Filey has a wide sandy beach which shelves gently into the sea, whilst the resort of Scarborough, popular with families, offers an excellent choice of restaurants and a theatre. Magnificent Flamborough Head with its bird sanctuary is 18 miles. The historic sea port of Whitby (25 miles), where the legendary Captain Cook learned his trade, has a beautiful new marina. The old town is a jumble of narrow streets, with ancient houses and little craft shops, and above the town, high on a headland, are the jagged ruins of Whitby Abbey, still an impressive sight. Inland is the market town of Malton, where a museum houses finds from the Roman camp which once stood here. Five miles to the west, Castle Howard, one of England’s grandest houses, is well worth a visit. Surrounded by magnificent parkland, it contains fine furniture and paintings, as well as Britain’s largest private collection of dress from the 17th-century to the present day. The attractive town of Pickering at the southern foot of the moors, is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which travels across Heartbeat country. The city of York can be reached in an hour or so, with its superb museums, excellent shops and splendid Minster. Flamingo Land and Ayton Castle are also nearby. There is an excellent golf course at Ganton (2 miles) and first-class riding stables at Snainton (7 miles). Good pubs and restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages.
