The interior is tastefully furnished with a spacious drawing room with feature marble fireplace, an elegant dining-room, a breakfast room and a sunny day room, all of which have French doors onto the south-facing terrace. The seven bedrooms, two with Sky TV, all have views to the gardens and are comfortably furnished and pleasantly decorated. Aldeburgh’s high street has numerous high quality restaurants, many individual shops, traditional public houses, an independent cinema and award-winning fish and chip shops. There is a super beach which is home to the famous ‘Scallop Sculpture’ by the artist Maggie Hambling and the fishermen’s huts selling the local catch of the day. With its golf course, tennis courts, and sea and river sailing, the town has something for everyone. Aldeburgh is noted for its close association with the composer Benjamin Britten and was the backdrop for many of his operas. Nearby in the village of Snape is the world famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall where the Aldeburgh Music and Arts Festival is held annually. Lovely strolls along the beach or beach path can be enjoyed as well as picturesque drives to other coastal towns and villages of interest including Southwold, Woodbridge, Dunwich, Orford, Thorpeness and Walberswick. 6 miles north of Heath House is the Minsmere RSPB reserve. Accommodation overview: Orchard House is a stunning, 18th-century converted barn which has been beautifully furnished throughout and offers spacious, detached holiday accommodation on the breathtaking North Devon Coast. A 30-minute walk across farmland leads to a little known, secluded, pebble and sandy beach - Portledge beach (access only available from 2nd Feb - 31st August) - which is a wonderful sun trap and well off the tourist map, making it usually very quiet even on the busiest summer day. The spectacular South West Coastal Path has a chain of magnificent cliffs and stretches along the Heritage Coast to Hartland Point. Retaining many original features - including exposed timber roof trusses, vaulted ceilings and natural stone – the property also benefits from modern design details. The four spacious double bedrooms are sumptuously furnished with designer fabrics, each one themed: French-style, chunky rustic Mexican-style, rich mahogany, and one with contemporary nickel bedstead. To the front of Orchard House is an enclosed garden and patio, with uninterrupted country views across the fields and valley. The long stone patio area extends the entire length of the barn, with huge patio table and chairs seating 12. Trout from the well-stocked large pond along the drive can even be caught fresh and baked in the open air on the barbecue! Guests are free to explore the surrounding 20 acres of woodland and pasture (with sheep and horses). The famous surfing beaches of Westward Ho! (4 miles) and Bude are an easy drive or hire a bike and explore the nearby Tarka Trail. Sailing, water-skiing, golf and riding are available locally. There are numerous NT properties in the area, as well as the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Hartland Abbey is well worth a visit and the charming village of Clovelly, just 6 miles away, is one of Britain’s showpieces, with whitewashed houses tumbling down to a little harbour.
