Accommodation overview: Vines and Rendells is set in a small hamlet, nestling in the beautiful Devonshire countryside and within walking distance of the sandy beach at Speke’s Mill Mouth, a popular venue for local surfers, boasting its own waterfall and set at the foot of an impressive cliff. Hartland is a mere 2 miles from the holiday property, with a post office, general store and several pubs serving an extensive range of meals from traditional pub food to the impressive cuisine of the Hart Inn. An attractive Mediterranean-style courtyard, bedecked with wisteria, jasmine, roses and a fig tree, provides a sunny and secluded entrance to the farmhouse with its ‘church door’ entrance. The securely sealed well still provides the farmhouse with fresh spring water filtered through a state-of-the-art purification system. Vines and Rendells is a substantial 17th-century, Grade II listed farmhouse set in 25 acres of countryside with its own pond (fishing available, bring own rods) and small stream running through the boundary woodland. There are spectacular views of Lundy Island and the Atlantic Ocean. Equipped with splendid natural teak dining furniture and large parasol, this is an ideal spot for al fresco dining and a glass of wine as the sun sets through Speke’s Valley. The adjoining large games room houses pool, badminton, table tennis, darts, table football, an assortment of other games and there is still plenty of space for a game of indoor football. The well-established garden has plenty of hidden corners for reading and relaxing. The adjoining barn has a skittle alley and plenty of space for the storage of bikes and surfboards. Shop 2 miles. Accommodation overview: IDYLLIC PROPERTY, WONDERFUL VALLEY LOCATION, LESS THAN 3/4 MILE WALK FROM THE BEACH This comfortable character detached house stands in its own 3 acres of garden and woodland in a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest, with direct access to the breathtaking cliffs and waterfall of Spekes Mill Mouth, that overlooks a secluded sand and rocky beach, enjoyed by both reef surfers and amateur prawn, crab and lobster fishermen. Garden lovers will be interested to know that the award-winning Docton Mill gardens are adjacent to the property and, in season, are well worth a visit as well as the mouth-watering cream teas. The village of Hartland is only 3 miles away and offers a choice of pubs serving food, shops and a Post Office. Other interesting places worth visiting nearby are Clovelly with its cobbled streets, sandy beaches at Sandymouth, which is just over the border in Cornwall, and Hartland Quay with its museum and history of wreckers and shipwrecks, remains of which can still be found around the rocky beaches of Hartland Point. Finally, many attractions such as The Big Sheep and The Milky Way offer excellent family entertainment. Leisure facilities: the properties own grounds offer a wealth of interest and excitement for all ages and include bluebell woods with tracks, pathways and bridges. Both adults and children alike enjoy the large log seating area around a campfire gazing at the stars and enjoying a sausage on a stick. The grounds lead down to an unfenced stream (children beware) where wild brown trout can be caught. There is also a mill pond, 200 yards from the house that fills in rainy weather and is also unfenced. The garden to the rear of the property has steps that lead to sloping lawns and to the side of the house there is a spectacular decked area looking out over the lower lawns and valley which are a blanket of daffodils, bluebells and other wild flowers in Spring. Games room: there is a patio area at the rear of the house with access to a small room and adjacent, transformed garage that houses table football and darts. There is also a small fridge, hi-fi and sofa for the young to get away, where parents can visit by invitation only. The accommodation offers FIVE bedrooms: 1 downstairs double with en-suite shower over bath and WC, 1 king-size double upstairs, with open-tread stairs leading to 1 twin with 2'6" beds and low sloping ceiling. 1 twin and 1 bunk bedroom with flat screen TV for sole use of DVDs and videos. Hartland village (1 mile), lies within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and dramatic coastline, rugged cliffs and coves – along with Lundy Island and breathtaking views of the Bristol Channel – offer just a selection of the delights that can be sampled by walking along the south-west coastal path within Heritage coastline, which is well within easy reach of the cottage. The North Devon coast presents surfers with excellent facilities at Bude, Widemouth, Welcombe and Westward Ho! and for golfers, 18-hole courses can be found at Hartland Forest Golf Course (3 miles) and Westward Ho! (15 miles). Other sporting activities in the area include riding, fishing and water sports, with the Tamar Lakes (8 miles) offering windsurfing, sailing and lakeside walks. For cyclists, the Tarka Trail accessed from Bideford (12 miles) provides a scenic route taking in the estuary and bays of the coastline, and there are several family attractions nearby for complete days for younger family members.
