A summer ferry runs from here to the sailing and holiday resort of Salcombe, whose calm waters are strewn with small craft, with the ruined Fort Charles at the entrance to the harbour injecting a touch of romance. Just east of Kingsbridge is the lagoon of the Slapton Ley nature reserve which supports herons, terns, widgeon and great crested grebes.
Further afield is the unique resort of Torquay, where the small marina can seem almost Mediterranean, especially at night when coloured lights festoon the harbour. The large sandy beaches are a major attraction, and there are also several museums, houses and ornamental gardens to explore. Shop 1/2 mile.
