Accommodation overview: Taking its name from the delightful outlook across an open meadow and to the fells beyond, Meadow Cottage in Staveley is an ideal base for those who prefer to be on the fringes of the busier resorts, yet only minutes away by car. The village has a host of excellent pubs and interesting outlets from cycle shops to woodturning and is at the foot of the Kentmere Valley which is rich in wildlife. Kingfishers can be seen above the weir at the edge of the village in pursuit of salmon leaping on their journey up river and head of the valley has been a nesting area of the golden eagle in past years. Accommodation overview: Thistle Cottage is situated at Duddon Mews in the hamlet of Foxfield, part of an attractive courtyard development of cottages, converted from an original barn. The accommodation is set our over three levels, with the lounge and dining areas being upstairs to take advantage of the beautiful view overlooking the Duddon Estuary to Black Combe. This area of the Lake District is less well known but equally as beautiful. With many attractions and great walking country close by, including Coniston Water and Coniston Old Man, Duddon Sands Nature Reserve and the South Lakes Safari Park. Low Hall lies between Cockermouth and Lorton in the most tranquil location, surrounded by woodland and open fields with views to the Lakeland fells. There is an abundance of wildlife, including deer, badgers, red squirrels, hares, buzzards and other birds of prey, and over 40 different bird species have been recorded. A stream, Little Sandy Beck runs through the cottage garden with a bridge into the woodland beyond. There is a bridleway from the house and a beautiful riverside walk along the river Cocker to Lorton and Cockermouth.
