It sits on the banks of Sandy Beck, a haven for wildlife and birdlife, including deer, red squirrels and kingfishers. The Smithy was converted from the former Blacksmiths forge by the owners in 2008. They retained the character, with vaulted ceilings and wooden beams and complemented it with the use of high quality furnishings throughout. Lorton, Crummock Water and Buttermere are nearby, with spectacular walks on the surrounding fells. The nearest pub serving bar meals is 2 miles and a wealth of amenities are available in the vibrant market town of Cockermouth, 4 miles. This 18th century house adjoins Newton House, the 2 properties may be let separately or together for up to 22 people and are set in over an acre of grounds. It is 1/2 mile from Ravenglass, a pretty fishing village on the Cumbrian Coast, with sandstone houses, pubs, hotels, shops and cafes. The Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge railway operates from the village station and travels along the Eskdale valley. Wast Water, Englands deepest lake, Sca Fell our highest mountain and the beautiful Wasdale and Eskdale valleys are all nearby and offer great walking. Guests can take advantage of a 20% discount for entry to Muncaster Castle and a 10% discount off meals at the Pennington Hotel.

Situated in the village of Lamplugh in a wonderful rural location 6 miles south of Cockermouth, it is close to Loweswater, Ennerdale Water and Crummock Water. This peaceful non-commercialised area of the Lake District is the perfect setting for a romantic break. Fishing is available locally at Cogra Moss, which is within walking distance and there are many other beautiful walks locally. The Coast to Coast cycle route goes past the front door and the award winning Kirkstile Inn is close by for bar meals. Cockermouth is well worth a visit, with shops, restaurants, Brewery Tours and the Lakeland Sheep and Wool centre to name a few of the attractions. Trotters Animal World is a mere 20 minute drive and the seaside town of St Bees is a similar distance.

Accommodation overview: The cottage, previously a clog makers workshop adjoins the owners home, Galloway House, dating back to the 1720’s which until recently was the village pub. Now a cosy 1 bedroom holiday cottage, Galloway Cottage is situated in the village of Crosby, 1 mile from the Cumbrian coast and 2 miles from the harbour town of Maryport. The beach is a fantastic place to walk your dog with views across the Solway to the Scottish Hills. Good food and drink is available at the Stag Inn, within 400 yards. Maryport has a Sea Life Centre, museums, a marina and a selection of shops. The seaside town of Allonby is approximately 4 miles and the spectacular Lake District Park is on the doorstep.
