It has a shingle beach, and there is a cliff-top walk, which leads you to the sandy beach at Sheringham just three miles away. The village is famous for being home to the Muckleburgh Military Collection, which is well worth a visit. There are many other opportunities for days out in the area for young and old alike and there are a number of excellent golf courses within easy reach. The village itself has a shop and pub, which serves food. Bourne Cottage is an attractive 300 year old flint cottage set in a peaceful area, next to a stream within the conservation area of Weybourne. There are many walks from the village and you could leave the car at home and use the Coast Hopper bus service which stops in the village or take a ride on a steam train into Sheringham or Holt. The village of Mundesley is an excellent location for a seaside holiday. It has a wonderful wide beach by a small promenade and a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Accommodation overview: Interesting conversion of a small Norfolk barn. One of four cottages which together sleep 18. Shared swimming pool. Once an important place of pilgrimage, the ruins of Bromholm Priory are still to be seen in Bacton today. The Priory was built in 1113 AD by William de Glanville and was home to the Cluniacs, the Black Monks who purchased a piece of the True Cross, the Bromholm Roode. Ensuing miracles ensured visits by many thousands of pilgrims including King Henry III. The Priory was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, the Domesday Book, and was the subject of a prediction in Mother Shipton's Almanac. Today the coastal village opens its doors to the 21st century pilgrims who visit for their holidays. They enjoy the friendly village atmosphere and the sandy beaches, which are often quiet even in the height of summer. There is a good range of local amenities including pubs, shops, a children's playground and a bowling green. These four beautifully refurbished cottages are set in the extensive mature and secure gardens and grounds of the 16th century Grade II listed Pilgrims House, which was once the farmhouse of Bromholm Priory. The accommodation is well equipped and very attractive, close to beach and the small coastal towns of Sheringham and Cromer. East Runton lies on the A149 coast road between the resorts of Sheringham and Cromer. A steepish lane leads down to the beach where at low tide there is a wide expanse of flat sand perfect for sandcastles or ball games. The beach is backed by high cliffs and there are paths into Cromer or the neighbouring village of West Runton. Away from the coast is a cluster of traditional brick and flint cottages, and an attractive green and duck pond. The village is well placed for exploring the area but if you wish to remain closer to home there are several small shops, two pubs and a restaurant serving meals.
