Accommodation overview: Hillview Holiday Cottage is located in the tranquil hamlet of Stronachlachar, which is in the heart of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. This semi-detached property is located only 150 yards from the banks of Loch Katrine. The cottage has oak flooring and a wonderful wood burning stove in the main open plan living area. The lounge has a leather suite with sofa bed and the front door leads out onto a large decked area within the enclosed garden. From the generous decking at the front of the cottage you can enjoy the view to the hills. The kitchen is fully fitted with all the facilities you require. Both bedrooms are beautifully co-ordinated with hardwood furniture. Loch Katrine is the main water supply for Glasgow and has a fascinating history. The famous Steamship Sir Walter Scott stops in at Stronachlachar in the summer months This means you can enjoy a circular trip combining the steamship and a cycle ride on the private, surfaced road which runs along the north side of the loch, or simply enjoy a refreshment in the restored Victorian waiting rooms. Loch Katrine is surrounded by wonderful wild countryside to explore, with mountains such as Ben Venue, Ben Ledi and the smaller Ben A'an all within easy reach. At Inversnaid, only 4 miles away, take a cruise on Loch Lomond or walk some of the West Highland Way. The Trossachs are an amazing location for outdoor enthusiasts as there are endless miles of forest roads and trails to explore, both walking and cycling. There is an abundance of wildlife to spot: birds of prey, red squirrels, pine martens and red deer to name a few. In the surrounding area there are many activities for every age and interests. At Aberfoyle, for the adventurous, is a high wire forest experience with the longest zip wire in Britain. Aberfoyle has an 18 hole golf course and there are numerous lochs to fish in with boat hire readily available. From this central location you can easily travel and explore the National Park, Stirlingshire and Perthshire. Accommodation overview: Nestling in the peaceful surroundings of Glenbuchat in the Eastern foothills of the Cairngorm National Park are Kirkton Steading and Kirkton Cottage. On either side of Glenbuchat are the quiet villages of Strathdon and Glenkindie. Strathdon offers a shop and a post office, while Glenkindie has a petrol station, which houses a shop and post office and a hotel which serves excellent food. There are a great number of outdoor pursuits to be enjoyed including salmon and sea trout fishing in the river Dee and river Don (permits available locally), cycling on the miles of cycle path, horse riding through spectacular scenery and golfing on a choice of courses. Walkers are well catered for, whether you would like a leisurely stroll on forest trails or take on the challenge of some of Scotland's highest mountains (Munro's) you won't be disappointed. Some of the finest skiing Scotland has to offer is only 12 miles away at the Lecht and with Glenshee, Scotland's largest ski centre, only 44 miles away; skiers will find this the ideal base. The Castle and whisky trails are within easy reach and give a good opportunity to take in some history, at the many famous castles including Balmoral, and have a taste of the good stuff whilst taking a tour at one of the excellent distilleries! The Lonach Gathering and Highland Games are a must on the local calendar, held on the fourth Saturday in August, the highland hospitality and games will make it a day to remember. The market town of Alford will prove an interesting choice for the motor enthusiast with the Heritage Centre, Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Valley Railway - a narrow gauge railway. Aberdeen with its bright lights is just 43 miles away, with an excellent selection of fine restaurants, shops and galleries making it well worth a visit. Accommodation overview: Offerance Farm Cottage is a lovely traditional style semi detached property located within 80 acres of working farmland. Situated at the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the cottage is only 2 miles from the small village of Gartmore. The cottage has a lovely lounge with wood burning stove, making it feel warm and welcoming. There is a separate sun lounge enjoying the view across the garden. The neat kitchen is fully equipped and there is a separate dining room. The double bedroom is on the ground floor and the twin bedroom and large bathroom are on the first floor. There is shared use of the front gravel courtyard and a large raised deck area providing beautiful views over surrounding countryside to the Campsite Fells and Ben Lomond. This is a fantastic location for outdoor enthusiasts; the vast Queen Elizabeth Forest is right on the doorstep, with endless miles of forest trails to explore, both walking and cycling. The Trossachs has spectacular mountains to climb such as Ben Lomond, Ben A'an, Ben Venue and Ben Ledi. This area has an abundance of wildlife to spot; ospreys, red squirrels and pine martens to name a few. There are many lochs to discover and Scotland's only "lake" - Lake of Monteith is close by. This stunning lake is famous for its fishing and the Inchmahome Priory is located on its small island. There are lots of activities for all ages and interests including pony trekking and sailing. For the adventurous, Aberfoyle has a high wire forest adventure, with the longest zip wire in Britain. There is an 18 hole golf course located just outside Aberfoyle.
