Accommodation overview: Located in the heart of the stunning village of Goathland, renowned for its connections with TV’s Heartbeat, this former miller’s retreat has been lovingly refurbished and transformed by the present owners to provide excellent holiday accommodation. Over 100 years old, oozing charm and character, this is the perfect location for exploring and discovering the North Yorkshire Moors’ hidden treasures. A short stroll brings guests to the village centre where sheep meander amongst the visitors stopping to collect the odd tit bit on the way. An eclectic mix of shops, inns, tea rooms and restaurants are often frequented by the cast and crew of Heartbeat and friendly locals serve some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine. Board the steam train and take a leisurely journey through the glorious Esk Valley into the historic port of Whitby where the cobbled streets and alleyways are packed with tumbling little cottages. The bustling harbour leads to a 3-mile stretch of award-winning sandy beach overlooked by the stunning abbey ruins where Bram Stoker found his inspiration and created Dracula. The brave of heart can climb the 199 steps to St Mary’s church where Tom Thumb is buried; look hard as it is a tiny plot! Cross the road and follow the bridle paths discovering stunning waterfalls and quaint little villages tucked away deep in the valleys. Market towns of Pickering, Kirkby Moorside and Helmsley host the weekly markets. Historic halls, homes and castles abound in this area with Castle Howard, film set for Brideshead Revisited, a must when staying in the area. A family day at Flamingo Land theme park and zoo can be enjoyed and all of this is just a short drive from the front door, there is so much to see and do, visitors find themselves returning again and again.
