Accommodation overview: Borgie House is a traditional farmhouse that provides spacious accommodation in a lovely setting.  Originally built under the Homes for Heroes scheme, through which local servicemen returning from the 1st World War were offered a farmhouse and land, Borgie House is a listed building and whilst it has been extended and refurbished over the years it has been sympathetically restored in keeping.  The large farmhouse kitchen is the real hub of the house, with dining table and chairs at one end and the Rayburn Range cooker ensures a warm, welcoming feel.  The spacious lounge has plenty of seating and the original sash and case windows look out over open countryside to the hills and mountains beyond.  Four large bedrooms and two bathrooms make this an ideal location for a two-family holiday or larger groups.  Surrounded by its own garden grounds, approached over a cattle-grid, it is completely private, yet just a few yards from a small country house hotel, which serves evening meals and drinks at the bar.  There are superb walks direct from the property a five bar gate leads onto the adjoining fields and hillside. The area is renowned for its miles of sweeping white sandy beaches which are always quiet, whatever the time of year.  Less than a mile away is the beautiful and secluded Lamigo Bay, which appears almost undiscovered and untouched by time.  Nearby Torrisdale Bay boasts an amazing beach with soft white sand dunes set against the white waves and turquoise sea of the Atlantic.  The area is a paradise for surfers, body boarders and beach lovers generally.   The pretty village of Bettyhill, above Torrisdale bay, has good local facilities including pubs, restaurant, as well as an excellent indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. There is also a museum documenting the fascinating history of the Highland clearances and by following the Strathnaver Trail visitors can experience life in the Highlands from Neolithic times through the Viking era to the modern day. The area is also a wild-life watchers paradise.  Whales, basking sharks, porpoises, seals and otters are all seen in the area.  At Melvich, just along the coast, there is also a colony of puffins and at Forsinard, Strath Halladale, there is an RSPB nature reserve, where local rangers will take visitors to explore the bird life, flora and fauna close to hand.  The headland at Strathy Point just along the coast from the cottage is fringed with spectacular cliffs with Strathy lighthouse dominating the skyline.  Nearby Borgie forest has a number of superb woodland trails, ideal for walking or cycling.  Fishing is a popular in the area and day tickets can be obtained locally to fish for salmon on the famous river Naver.  Sea fishing is available from Skerray harbour, just along the road.  Here small fishing boats and the occasional pleasure craft are launched from the jetty, and fishing off the rocks is a local pastime. There is also a boat trip available to visitors.  Golf, canoeing, cycling, hill-walking, climbing and horse riding are all available locally.  There are a number of excellent local restaurants, pubs and cafes in the small towns and villages along the coast. Property has oil central heating.

Accommodation overview: Nestled in an idyllic private woodland setting, Auchenhill Lodge offers a lovely relaxing retreat close to Kippford, often described as Scotland's 'Riviera'. Locals refer to this area as 'The Golden Triangle' - Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford - and frequent visitors understand why. The climate is temperate as Galloway is touched by the Gulf Stream with many golden, sandy, and often empty beaches to explore. For excellent views of the Rough Firth estuary, the Jubilee Path is highly recommended. This was named to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and is the main path between Kippford and the equally charming village of Rockcliffe. There are wonderful views out to sea, and the path passes Mark of Mote, 1 100-foot high granite outcrop, with a Dark Age settlement on top. Rockcliffe and Sandyhills (with a beautiful sandy beach as its name implies!) are small Victorian bathing resorts close by. Kippford was once a smuggler's haunt with a wealth of stories and legends to discover and is now a pretty sailing resort with quaint fisherman's cottages. There is a low tide walk from the beach to Rough Island. Scotland's only round tower house, Orchardton Tower, is a must to visit with its spiral staircase hidden within double walls leading to a parapet. This area is steeped in history and has an outstanding natural beauty. But that's not all; the renowned 7Stanes for world class mountain biking is on the doorstep; the championship golf course at Southerness is just along the coast line and there are waters that cater for every type of fishing providing river fishing for salmon, sea trout and trout and still waters include pike, carp roach and bream. For romance and history Threave Castle at Castle Douglas is a great visit and very memorable; the only way to access the castle is to ring the bell for the custodian to row you across the moat! The town of Castle Douglas is known as the food town in this land of milk and honey -  so leave the diet at home! Also highly recommended is a visit to the picturesque harbour town of Kirkcudbright renowned for its artistic connection due to the special quality of light in the area. It is said that Kirkcudbright was a contender as a setting for the acclaimed Balamory TV programme due to its historic high street lined  with pretty, colourful houses. Galloway really is a land of plenty and although very accessible and wildly beautiful it is relatively undiscovered and very unspoilt. But come and discover it for yourself!

Accommodation overview: The Old Dairy is a former milk parlour just on the outskirts of the lovely little town of Castle Douglas. This semi detached property is ideally placed for an evening stroll around Carlingwark Loch or a shopping day with a difference. Castle Douglas is known as the Food Town with around fifty local businesses either producing or selling high quality local produce for all to enjoy. This area is often referred to as 'the Cornwall of the North' due to Galloway's similar climate as well as over 200 miles of rugged coastline and sandy beaches which are surprisingly often empty! The combination of a land kissed by the Gulf Stream; wildlife galore; artistic colonies; the UK's largest forest and a secret coast lapped by the blue waters of the Solway Firth make this and idyllic holiday destination. The Old Dairy boasts a good central location; from the amazing Colvend Coast with its picturesque villages, to the Galloway Forest Park which is a haven for wildlife. The 'Artists' Town of Kircudbright is close by and with its pretty harbour and colourful High Street it is easy to see why it became an artists' colony. Each of the peninsulas has its own gems on offer; Carrick near Borgue; the Isle of Whithorn on the Machars and Scotland's most southerly point, the Mull of Galloway in the Rhins. The open gardens are glorious and a testament to the mild climate. Logan Botanic Gardens has flourishing plants from the South Seas and Threave Gardens are a mass of colour. The romantic Threave Castle is only accessed by water and a custodian rows you across! The region has many connections with fame from Robert Burns to David Coulthard to Thomas Carlyle and Thomas Telford. The latest acclaim is achieving an award for one of only four places in the World to view the night sky so clearly and you have to travel considerably further to see the other three places as they are all in North America - so bring your binoculars! Visitors also enjoy this area to sample the World class mountain biking at the 7Stanes which is guaranteed to thrill. Laggan Outdoor Centre is also designed for the adrenalin junkies with mountain balling! The Galloway Forest is also a place of great peace and tranquillity and has mile after mile of forest tracks, moorland, lochs and challenging hills. It is home to otters and deer and red kites and buzzards and red squirrels and the very lucky may spot a golden eagle! Property has oil central heating.

Accommodation overview: Fisherman's Cottage is in an idyllic spot on the shore of Luce Bay boasting a private slipway and uninterrupted views across to the Rhinns of Galloway. The cottage is charming with every comfort provided to ensure that you have a wonderful holiday. When the cottage was first built around 1850 it was the first dwelling in Stairhaven and there are only a handful of houses even today. The hamlet is known locally as The Craws Nest. You may even catch a glimpse of the area's last remaining lobster fisherman. This is a timeless land where the pace of life is relaxed and the scenery has remained unchanged for centuries; stunning coastal and pastoral landscapes kissed by the Gulf Stream. The Stairhaven coastal path winds its way from behind the cottage and you will be rewarded by lovely views across Luce Bay to the Isle of Man and its highest point, Snaefell and the Mull of Galloway - most southerly point of Scotland. The unusually shaped islands in the bay are the Little Scares and Big Scares Rocks, which are one of very few gannet nesting sites in the world. This section of the coast is rich in marine and bird life, so look out for grey seals and cormorants searching the bay for fish. The Mull of Galloway is the place to go for views and on a clear day you can see four kingdoms; Scotland, England, Ireland and the kingdom of the Isle of Man. The Mull has a fine example of one of Roberts Stephenson's lighthouses perched on top of the huge cliffs. These cliffs provide habitat for an amazing array of birds, including guillemots, fulmars, kittiwakes and peregrine falcons. You may also see the occasional puffin. St Medan's cave and chapel is another interesting site consisting of a chapel built into a cave. Cyclists of all abilities will love the area whether their ideal is mountain biking where the area boasts some world class challenges at the 7Stanes venues or just meandering along the quiet, sleepy lanes taking in the beautiful scenery. Not forgetting those who love their golf; the 'County' is one of the most popular holiday golf courses in South West Scotland, an 18 hole, true links course situated on the shores of Luce Bay. The pace of life here is so much slower you will soon begin to relax, but if you miss the city lights you can always nip over to Belfast for a day's shopping! There are sandy beaches galore from the glorious sweep of beach at Sandhead to the point at Monreith. Laggan Outdoor is a great day out offering mountain balling, mountain boarding and clay pigeon shooting to name just a few of the activities on offer Property has oil central heating.
