Accommodation overview: Rowan Cottage was built in 1843 as a 'wee free' church, a branch of the Church of Scotland famously strict in its religious practices. The beautiful, old beams throughout the property are testament to its history and a delightful character feature. "Out of the world and into Borgue" is a local saying aptly describing this pretty little village, which is surrounded by beautiful beaches, green and pastoral landscape and amazing little towns each with their own fascinating history. The name Borgue is derived from the Gaelic word 'Burg' meaning 'little hill'. The village itself is set amidst the rolling hills of Galloway, a delightful and challenging landscape for all those who enjoy a good walk! For mountain bike lovers, the area is known as ‘Scotland's biking heaven' as it provides the location for a number of trails forming part of the world class 7 Stanes. For those who like their cycling a little less energetic, there are miles and miles of gentle forest paths to ride or ramble. The newly opened DG One leisure complex in Dumfries provides a wide range of other sporting activities. The area is also renowned for the quality of its golf courses such as the championship course at Southerness. It also offers some wonderful fishing opportunities. The picturesque small town of Kirkcudbright is close by and its attractive harbour, castle and strong artistic connections, including links with the well known "Glasgow Boys", make for an interesting day. The beautiful shoreline at Carrick and the lovely sandy beaches of Brighouse and the Doon are also well worth a visit and both only a short drive away. The acclaimed Cream of Galloway is a must for a family day out with over 30 flavours of organic ice cream to choose from! The Galloway Forest Park is Britain's largest - the Queen's Way comes highly recommended; a drive through magnificent scenery with glimpses of deer, wild goats and buzzards galore, the perfect venue for relaxation in truly beautiful surroundings. The local climate is tempered by the Gulf Stream and evidence of this is everywhere: from the wonderful plant life to the exotic gardens scattered throughout the area. Galloway remains unspoilt with breathtaking scenery including picturesque lochs, majestic hills and stunning beaches where it is still possible to see only one set of footprints..... yours! So step out of your world for a wee while and enter the welcoming world of Borgue! Property has electric storage heaters.

Accommodation overview: Providence is a beautiful and elegant Victorian three storey town house positioned on a quiet street next to the town hall and within easy walking distance of the facilities within the ancient fishing port of Kirkcudbright on the south west coast of Scotland. The property overlooks the bowling green and could not be better placed for enjoying the town's many amenities or simply enjoying its serene and unspoilt beauty. The pastel coloured houses and wide streets within the town together with the natural beauty of the harbour - a safe haven for sailors for centuries - combine to create a local ambience and atmosphere that are both relaxing and tranquil. It is a town with an interesting past and vibrant present. Established as a Royal Burgh in 1455, it quickly developed into a busy fishing port. Over recent centuries it has taken a different path and established a reputation as one of Scotland's premier artist' towns. It has been home to generations of creative artists, a tradition maintained today by the flourishing colony of creative people and craft workers. A gentle stroll through the excellent selection of family owned shops is a delightful and relaxing experience and the goods on offer testimony to the town's creative heritage. Kirkcudbright provides entertainment throughout the year but particularly during the summer months, which heralds a varied programme of activities. The Arts and Crafts trial for example, is particularly recommended and the tattoo, held every August and culminating in a dramatic firework display, is a wonderful and uplifting spectacle. There are numerous visitor attractions within the town including the Tolbooth, one of the town's oldest buildings and now an arts' centre, and Castle MacLellan, a large ruin dating from1582 and now under the control of Historic Scotland. Kirkcudbright is also gateway to a region of beautiful countryside which provides a fantastic landscape for walking, mountain biking and horse riding. The Galloway Hills and forest park, the largest woodland park in the country, provide perfect locations for a family day out and picnic and offer the chance of seeing some of the wonderful wildlife that inhabit the area. This is a region full of contrast and activity and Providence offers tastefully furnished accommodation in a truly delightful holiday destination. Haste ye back!
