Accommodation overview: This coastline is renowned for its miles of sweeping white sandy beaches which are always quiet, whatever the time of year. The area is a paradise for surfers, body boarders and beach lovers generally. The pretty village of Bettyhill, above Torrisdale bay, has good local facilities including pubs and a restaurant, as well as an excellent indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. There is also a museum documenting the fascinating history of the Highland clearances and by following the Strathnaver Trail visitors can experience life in the Highlands from Neolithic times through the Viking era to the modern day. The area is a wild-life watchers paradise. Whales, basking sharks, porpoises, seals and otters are all seen in the area. At Melvich just along the coast there is also a colony of puffins which can be seen and at Forsinard, Strath Halladale, there is an RSPB nature reserve, where local rangers will take visitors to explore the bird life, flora and fauna close to hand. Nearby Borgie forest has a number of superb woodland trails, ideal for walking or cycling. Golf, canoeing, cycling, hill-walking, climbing and horse riding are all available locally. Heading south is the Strath of Kildonan, site of a 19th century gold-rush where it is still possible to pan for gold in the River Helmsdale - some visitors even claim to have paid for their holiday by selling the gold - but you must stake your claim by posting the date and amount of gold found in the old stone letter box! There are a number of excellent local restaurants, pubs and cafes in the small towns and villages along the coast. Beechwood provides an ideal base for exploring this spell-binding and unforgettable region of the UK.

Accommodation overview: Failte is a superb conversion of two former fishermens cottages, which have been combined to form a beautiful and spacious house situated right on the edge of the sea. The property enjoys wonderful panoramic views of the sweeping coastline, with a traditional Scottish golf links beyond. It adjoins the beautiful sandy beach of Brora. Continually owned by generations of MacRae fishermen since the 1820s, the current owner (a direct descendent) has carried out a stunning refurbishment whilst integrating the adjoining cottage. The main living area is on the upper floor, taking full advantage of the magnificent views. The four large windows overlook the mouth of the River Brora, beach and North Sea with stunning uninterrupted views over 20 miles northwards to Berriedale Head. Exposed beams and a feature fireplace of Caithness flagstone and original decorative local sandstone add to its distinctive charm and ambience. A generous dining room and attractive sun lounge on the ground floor overlooking the estuary, golf course and beach ensure there is plenty of living space. Five bedrooms, two bathrooms and a downstairs cloakroom make this spacious property ideal for a two-family or extended family holiday. Features include: Non Smoking Fishing near by Beach close by Easy Walking Pub near by Pets allowed Parking Available Golf near by Has a Garden
Accommodation overview: The Brackens is a quintessential Highland cottage that has been lovingly restored to create a truly charming country retreat in a secluded yet easily accessible location. This traditional detached cottage is set in its own grounds and enjoys spectacular, uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills and valleys away into the distance. Situated just 1/2 mile away from the pretty stone village of Pittentrail, sometimes referred to by locals as Rogart and offers the very best of both worlds - total seclusion yet only 1/2 mile walk to the local pub and restaurant. The tiny hamlet of Rhemusaig where the cottage stands apparently means the place of the primroses and this is certainly very apt, as the hillsides surrounding the cottage are simply covered with them in Springtime. The owner is a professional orthinologist and the gardens and local area are a haven for birdwatchers; osprey, golden eagles, wood-peckers, hen harriers, red starts and even the very rare red poll are seen in the vicinity.
