It is surrounded by acres of rolling pastureland and woodland, all easily accessible, as they are part of the estate. Although the house has been modernised with every modern gadget, including a 42in plasma TV, it retains its original character and charm with open fireplaces and stone-flagged floors. One often sees deer and other wildlife, yet it is only 5 miles from the cathedral city of Wells, 15 miles from the Roman spa city of Bath with its magnificent architecture, or why not visit the caves at Cheddar and Wookey. Just 15 miles to Bristol Airport and its city which is full of history, culture and shops. Glastonbury is 8 miles away, famous for its festival, tor and King Arthur legend. Accommodation overview: West Lynch, thatched and cosy, has been with the same family for three centuries and lies on the sunny side of the Porlock Valley. These lead to the open moors - with large herds of red deer, Exmoor ponies, the buzzards on the wing and foxes in thir lairs - and dramatic headland of Hurlstone, looking west down to Devon and north to the Welsh coast. Also within walking distance are the romantic villages of Bossington, Selworthy, Allerford and bustling Porlock for year-round needs, as well as Minehead’s farmers’ market. There is surfing at Lynmouth or beyond to Croyde and Woolacombe, and golf at Minehead or the fine course at Saunton for a true test. Horse riding is available for all abilities and entertainment for both children and adults at Lynch Farm and Tropicaria further on. There are also glorious walks, of course, to hidden treasures such as Culbone Church, Butlins at Minehead or Dunster Castle if activities such as outdoor meals, table tennis, croquet and messing about with balls at West Lynch does not suffice. Accommodation overview: Set in a pretty tranquil spot surrounded by countryside, this charming detached house is a perfect holiday base for families and friends to get together. On the boundary of Somerset’s Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, this is an ideal place for walkers, bird-watchers, cyclists or for those who want a peaceful holiday. Two Bridges has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard, and offers spacious accommodation. There is a spacious garden which has been beautifully maintained. There is fly fishing available by arrangement in the river just 200 yards from the property (children must be supervised), and there are many places to visit including Crealy Adventure Park which is just outside Exeter. Exeter with its fabulous cathedral, many shops, canal and quaint hidden pubs is close by, as is Taunton with its array of shops. Exmouth with its sandy beaches is only 35 minutes away or take a trip to Exmoor National Park and look out for red deer and ponies, or take a Landrover ride across the rugged terrain. There are many villages well worth visiting across Exmoor, take time out for a cream tea, or stop to see some breathtaking scenery. There are many National Trust places close by including Arlington Court, Watersmeet and Dunster Castle, as well as Marwood Gardens. Cothay Manor is 3 miles; Glastonbury and Cheddar Caves are within driving distance of the property, and well worth a day out. Minehead is not far away, with its sandy beach, steam railway and shops. It is hard to believe just how amazingly pretty and peaceful this tiny hamlet really is - just a church, a few cottages, and farmland all around in a totally unspoilt and most unvisited corner of West Somerset.
