Accommodation overview: Westfield House is situated right on the shore line and commands stunning sea views from its large picture windows. Dolphins, whales, seals and otters are spotted directly from the property and fishing off the rocks is highly recommended. The hills and mountains beyond serve as a wonderful backdrop. The cottage has been tastefully furnished and renovated and now provides attractive, warm and welcoming accommodation in a truly spectacular setting. The cottage is situated in a quiet no through road that leads down to a lighthouse and out onto the rocks. Adjoining the cottage the land goes straight out onto open hillside, providing unlimited scope for superb hill walking amongst some of the most amazing scenery in the Highlands. This area is designated as the largest Geopark in Europe. Majestic mountains interspersed with pretty lochs make this a climbers and hill walkers paradise. The nearby town of Ullapool, just over two miles away is absolutely charming. Built as a model town by Thomas Telford, its whitewashed buildings and wide sweeping harbour never fail to impress the visitor. Seals can be seen bobbing amongst the fishing boats as they unload their catches. There is an excellent selection of restaurants, bistros and small shops along the seafront and boat trips run from the harbour to explore the coastline, including a wonderful pleasure trip out to the nearby Summer Isles. Ullapool is also the terminus for the ferry to Stornoway in the Outer Isles. There is a fascinating museum as well as an excellent sports centre in the town and a wide variety of events, galas and activities take place here throughout the year. This area of North West Scotland is renowned for its pristine sandy beaches, ancient settlements and incredible sandstone mountains. On a trip through the local area known as Assynt the visitor can explore the Bone Caves (a series of caves and tunnels which have recently been found to contain bones and fossils of long extinct animals, dating back over 4500 years) and the ruins of Ardvreck Castle perched on the edge of Loch Assynt, before arriving in the pretty fishing port of Lochinver. The nearby white shell beach of Achmelvich is simply stunning.
