The surrounding area is wonderful for walking and cycling and a great array of activities and visitor attractions are easily accessible including a pearl factory and dinosaur farm museum. Pubs serving food and shops are found just over a mile away in Brighstone a village teeming with old world charm and featuring a church dating from 1190.

Being set within an AONB, most of the surrounding land is National Trust, offering spectacular uninterrupted views over the sea and downland, including West High Down, Tennyson monument and Headon Warren - with its breathtaking views of The Needles. The holiday property makes an ideal choice for families, with plenty of indoor and outdoor entertainment, including badminton, croquet and other games. Although in a secluded area, amenities in Totland and Freshwater are only 5 minutes’ drive, offering shops, library, tea-rooms, indoor swimming-pool and pubs, and Alum Bay with its famous coloured sands, is about 15 minutes’ walk over the Downs. The historic sailing town of Yarmouth, set in the estuary of the River Yar, is about 10 minutes’ drive, and Colwell, Totland and the popular sandy beach at Compton are 5 minutes’ drive away. As well as the excellent walks from the house locally, there are also many tourist attractions to discover, including The Needles Park - one of the most popular attractions on the island, with chairlift, boat rides, coloured sands, lighthouse, amusements and glass making. Also within easy driving distance are Blackgang Chine, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, traditional pottery making, Calbourne water mill, various NT homes/gardens, vineyards, museums, wildlife centres, a zoo, pearl factory, Carisbrooke Castle, Osbourne House, Cowes/Yarmouth harbours. Outdoor pursuits include golf (nearby Freshwater), cycling, riding, sailing, fishing and diving. Shops 2 miles, pub a 1-mile walk over the Downs. Accommodation overview: A totally unique property built in 1790 Fort Norris was once the gatehouse to nearby Norris Castle. Both were alleged to be the playground of a young Princess Victoria her love of the area purportedly led to Prince Albert commissioning Osborne House which is just a few minutes away. From the impressive round entrance hall with its suit of armour Fort Norris is steeped in history and even the 17th century wooden panelling in the sitting room tells its own tale. From two observation platforms accessed by climbing the spiral staircase into its turrets there are stunning views of the sea with passing cruise liners and on occasion the Red Arrows. In addition to its unique accommodation outside lies an acre of grounds featuring a beautiful private walled garden and a summer house. Fort Norris is located in East Cowes an area that like its counterpart at Cowes boasts a major yachting facility. Less than two miles away is the famous St Mildred’s Church favoured by Queen Victoria whilst on the island and well worth a visit. The whole island with its many attractions for all interests is easily accessible. East Cowes is served by the Red Funnel ferry service from Southampton and Fishbourne (from Portsmouth) is only six miles away. Day trips to the mainland can be taken as a foot-passenger on the hovercraft from Ryde for Gunwharf Quays and the historic dockyard at Portsmouth. Shop pub and restaurant 1 mile.
