The Old Brewery Brae Store is a delightful listed building dating back to the 18th century. Gatehouse of Fleet is a pretty wee toon and Brewery Brae Store is centrally located off the high street allowing easy access to the many facilities on offer. The cottage has been aptly named as the Gulf Steam touches this corner of Scotland making the climate very temperate and if you find this hard to believe then visit Logan Botanic Gardens where plants from the South Seas flourish. The garden to Palm Tree Cottage has a palm tree reputed to be over 50 years old and viewed from the terrace the garden really does look tropical. Ideally located for honeymooners it sits only 20 minutes from Gretna Green on a stretch of coastline characterised by wide expanses of mudflats attracting wild geese and a great variety of seabirds. An RSPB reserve lies close by and picturesque Powfoot village boasts a challenging 18 hole links golf course and hotel whilst the local area's quiet roads form part of the main cycle route in Dumfriesshire. Dumfries itself lies just 14 miles away and here the visitor will find good shops an indoor swimming pool and the Burns Heritage Trail. Bar and restaurant ½ mile; shops 3½ miles.
