Accommodation overview: This delightful, semi-detached cottage has been beautifully converted from a former steading and enjoys a most enchanting Hansel & Gretal type forest setting; teeming with wildlife such as red deer, red squirrels, buzzards and much more. The cottage is a veritable haven of peace and quiet and provides the perfect holiday getaway - the ideal escape from the hurly-burly of modern life. The night skies in this area are magical, evidenced by the fact that the local Galloway Forest has been classed as one of only four places in the world where it is still possible to look out upon a clear night sky. An unimpaired view of the Milky Way in all its natural glory is often regarded as the eighth wonder of the world. This is an exceptionally scenic area with glistening lochs such as Loch Dornal and Loch Maberry and meandering footpaths galore. The glorious Galloway Hills are very accessible and The Merrick, the highest peak in the area, provides a fine and challenging walk. This area is paradise on earth for mountain bikers and one of the highly acclaimed 7Stanes trails is at nearby Glen Trool. However, for those who like their exercise closer to hand, the cottage is ideally placed for cycling straight from the front door. The River Bladnoch winds its way through this remote and stunning area before arriving at the distillery where it contributes greatly to the quality of the final product, the Spirit of the Lowlands. The Southern Upland Way, a glorious long-distance footpath from the pretty fishing village of Portpatrick in the west to Cockburnspath on the east coast, passes through this area and should be explored as it journeys in places over some truly stunning landscapes. The delights of the Ayrshire coast are many and varied including the magnificent Culzean Castle with its little sandy beach and stunning gardens. Sail back in time aboard The Waverley, the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world or try a ferry trip to the emerald isle and sample its fantastic shopping. The Mull of Galloway is Scotland's most southerly point and remains an unspoiled paradise for visitors seeking time to stand and stare in a land-scape full of myth, legend and tranquillity. From the cliff-tops on a clear day it is possible to see four kingdoms: the Isle of Man, Ireland, England and Scotland. Property is all on ground floor, has Calor Gas central heating.
