The famous Tarka Trail (cycle and footpath) along the spectacular estuary can be joined near the farmhouse, and an abundance of dramatic coastal walks can be found along the English Heritage Coastline nearby. The delightful seaside fishing village of Instow (3 miles) offers many pubs and fine restaurants, and also has a sandy beach overlooking the bay. 3 miles away is Westward Ho! with an extensive sandy beach, popular with keen surfers, and an 18-hole links golf course. The fascinating little fishing village of Appledore with its narrow streets has art galleries run by local artists and offers sea fishing trips. Many more glorious golden beaches can be found within 20 miles at Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe. The Dartington Crystal factory, where you can watch and take part in making the famous glassware is only 5 miles away, as are the Rosemoor RHS Gardens. Shop 1½ miles. Entrance hall.
