Accommodation
Dating back to the 18th century, this imposing Grade II listed former vicarage has been tastefully refurbished to provide spacious, comfortable holiday accommodation for larger family groups, with several antique pieces. From its hilltop location, it commands wonderful far-reaching views of the surrounding countryside. Halfway between Helmsley (with its magnificent ruined castle, walled garden and lovely range of individual shops and tea rooms) and Pickering, home of the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway, this makes an excellent base for exploring the area. Farm shops, craft rooms and quaint country pubs abound, with regular weekly markets being held throughout the area. The spectacular drive down Sutton Bank leads to Thirsk, where the James Herriot museum shows life as it was for the famous vet. From here the Yorkshire Dales can be toured to see the wonderful scenery shown in the TV series. To the east is the Yorkshire coast with miles of sandy beaches and dramatic cliff top walks, home to many birds and wildlife. Whitby, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay are popular, whilst Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington have something for all the family. Not to be missed is a day at York, with its historic city walls from where you can take in views of the minster and surrounding quaint cobbled streets full of museums, shops and places to eat. There are many NT and English Heritage sites to visit, along with market towns, welcoming pubs, tearooms. Shooting, fishing, riding, swimming, and golf locally. Shop 3 miles. Large living room with open fire, piano, library and large bay windows overlooking garden. Large galleried dining hall with antique furniture and French windows to garden. Sitting room.
